About St. Louis Box Lacrosse

What we do, and why we love it

WHAT IT MEANS

We want to develop the sport of Box Lacrosse in the St. Louis Metropolitan area by being the first to present and teach the game properly to give our local athletes the opportunity to develop skills normally taught north of the border.

We are, first and foremost, a LEAGUE focused on bringing Box Lacrosse to St. Louis. Whether assisting individual players in their development or bringing whole teams together to facilitate learning and competition, we seek to bring the best REAL box lacrosse experience to ALL teams and players. What we are NOT is a traveling club team competing with field lacrosse programs. We welcome one and all to learn the box game with us.

For INDIVIDUAL PLAYERS, we provide coaching, structure, and the opportunity to learn Canada’s National Summer Sport with like minded players in a competitive environment. For TEAMS and CLUBS, we provide an organized and structured BOX LACROSSE experience for players, coaches, and parents. Coaches are certified by our staff, coaches and players receive box lacrosse specific insurance coverage not available through USLacrosse, and parents receive the piece of mind knowing that their young men are being trained properly and that competition occurs in a safety conscious environment.

MISSION STATEMENT

To teach and develop young athletes through the sport of Box Lacrosse in the St. Louis Metropolitan area. We are committing to promoting a fun and competitive league environment in teaching Canada’s national summer sport. We expect all staff, players, officials, and parents to uphold the highest values of sportsmanship at Spearhead Lacrosse events. We are further committed to teaching REAL Box Lacrosse through quality, certified coaches and officials.

AFFILIATION

We are affiliated with USBOXLA. USBOXLA provides St. Louis Box Lacrosse with standardized Coaches and Officials training as well as a rulebook which oversees all competition.

All players participating in St Louis Box Lacrosse must join USBOXLA at a cost of $45 per year.

THE WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN, AND WHY

  • Who: Lacrosse athletes from ages 8-18; both whole teams and individuals
  • What: REAL Box Lacrosse. As part of USBOXLA, we bring trained coaches and officials to teach the game that is the true national summer sport of Canada.
  • Where: Vetta - Concord, 12320 Old Tesson Road, St. Louis, MO 63128
  • When: Our next session begins October 23rd, 2017. Individual Registration and Team Registration is currently open.
  • Why: It’s no secret that Canadian players with a box lacrosse background have become a predominant recruiting target at all levels. The stick skills and increase number of touches on the ball simply make a better player, both offensively and defensively. These legends of the field game have this to say about box lacrosse:
    • -Bill Tierney, 6x NCAA DI Champion, Head Coach for University of Denver
      • “If I had my choice, I would have every player under the age of 12 play box lacrosse exclusively or at least a majority of the time.  The number of touches of the ball and the ability to develop better stick skills in a game of box lacrosse far surpasses what happens on a field.”
    • -Casey PowellMLL/NLL All-Star
      • “I knew that if I wanted to be one of the best players in the world, I would have to dedicate myself to both the indoor and the outdoor game. Playing indoor lacrosse has been a great thing for my career.”
    • -Coach Dom Starsia, 4x NCAA Champion, Head coach for University of Virginia
      • “When you watch Canadian kids score, when you see their skill level around the cage, you wonder to yourself, ‘Jeez, are we teaching kids [in the U.S.] the wrong things?”
